Who are you, and why are you starting a new church in Kansas City?
This church plant is being spearheaded by Mike and McKenzie Sandusky along with the help of a small group of adults called a “Launch Team”. With the help of the launch team we are planting a church in the heart of North Kansas City. This area is near where many of our team grew up, and we have a heart for the people and history of this city. Over the last two years God has stirred us more and more clearly, and at the same time the need for Gospel-centered church communities has grown in the Northland.
When and where will you start meeting?
You can join hereFor the first half of 2026, we will meet once to twice a month with the Launch Team in various locations around North Kansas City
Starting in the summer of 2026 (July or August) we will begin gathering publicly at Abide Community Socials and Interest Parties where anyone who wants to come is welcome to connect with our community and learn about our church launch in 2027
Sign up here for email or text updates on our meetings in 2026.
NewsletterWhat kind of church is this (denomination, beliefs, theology)?
Our BeliefsWe are a non-denominational church that is part of the Confluence family of churches. You can read about our beliefs here.
You can learn more about Confluence on their webpage
ConfluenceWhat are your worship gatherings like?
When we gather to worship, our services are designed to be welcoming to anyone regardless of their spiritual or church background. We sing worship songs for 20-30 minutes, led by a team of gifted musicians and we open the Bible together to hear clear, yet deep teaching from gifted Bible teachers. We aim for our worship times to be 60-75 minutes long - and we encourage people to come early and stay after to meet people and make friends.
We will also provide safe, secure, and fun care for your kids from 0 to 5th grade. We are a new church, but our team has decades of experience working with young kids!
Is this church for people who already believe, or for those who are exploring faith?
We are a community for everyone, from people just exploring faith, to seasoned and mature believers. The church is meant to be a mix of people from all sorts of backgrounds unified together by the love of Christ.
We love in particular helping new people explore and understand the basics of Christianity - if that is you, come and check us out!
What about kids, students, and families?
We put high priority on blessing families with kids. We want to help you grow as a family together in all that God has for you. Practically we aim to provide high quality care and teaching to kids that is also fun, and safe. All of our kids volunteers are background checked and well-trained so that your kids have an excellent experience.
We also put a high priority on discipling students from 6th grade through 12th grade. Our youth are encouraged to participate in our Worship Services, and in addition we provide small groups specifically aimed at helping youth aged believers grow in faith, in community, in character and in spiritual life.

What makes this church different from other churches in KC?
We are excited about every church that is preaching the gospel of Jesus Christ and making disciples in Kansas City, and there are several! There just aren’t enough churches to serve all the spiritual needs in KC and those needs are growing faster than churches are being planted!
With that said there are a handful of things that set us apart from other churches in KC
We aim to be a church that takes the Bible seriously and yet has deep, inviting community that goes beyond a Sunday worship service. We want to build people into this family, and we believe there is a depth of community in Christ that few have really experienced. We want to invite you to test it out and just see what God does when you commit (even for a short season) to our community!
We also believe that Jesus made disciples through doing ministry, which means that we really aim to serve our community where there are needs, and come alongside other organizations that are serving the community well. We also believe that real community is a ministry when it is alive, reaching others, and building them into a growing family of people together on a mission.
Who is leading the church, and who is behind the church plant?
Hey! That’s me - Mike Sandusky (I wrote all of these FAQ answers on a lazy Monday afternoon myself) and my wife McKenzie Sandusky, who is sitting next to me dominating some Legend of Zelda. Our story can be found here (link to our story), but I’ll share a bit here too. We are people who really love Jesus, and who still can’t believe how incredible, how awesome, how personal, and how deep the good news of Jesus is. We are in awe of the Bible, of Christ, and of God’s great love for us. We really can’t help but love the church, and want to build it. No matter what happens in life, we are Christ’s and we will love anyone and everyone that God brings to us while doing our best to build genuine communities that love Jesus and walk out his great purposes.
We have been a part of two other churches together (Living Hope Church in St. Joseph, MO and Living Hope Church in Maryville, MO), and I have been a pastor since 2009. We love the people of God, and we only left our previous churches when God called us to go! We still love the people of Living Hope, and we are excited to build a new church in the heart of the Northland in KC.
If you have gotten this far, I am impressed and I will buy you lunch, just reach out!
How can I support or be part of the launch?
JoinThere are so many ways:
1. First you can pray for us! Everything great in the kingdom of God takes great faith and it takes God’s power moving as we pray and as we walk in faith. Pray that God blesses us, that he provides all the people, the provision and all the spiritual power that we need.
2. Second you can come and check us out starting in the summer of 2026. We can’t wait to meet you.
3. You can sign up to join our launch team
4. You can give financially to support us. God is in control of every dollar out there and we will use every dollar that comes our way to love people, reach the community, build the church and raise new leaders through making disciples.
